__ Chaillot district __
The Chaillot district is the part of the 16th arrondissement located between Porte Maillot, Charles de Gaulle Etoile and the Seine at the Trocadéro, a rather chic district and above all very well provided with museums! There is indeed the Museum of Modern Art, the Palais de Tokyo, the Musée Guimet… An ideal place for a cultural afternoon.
Metro stations: Porte Maillot, Argentine, Charles de Gaulle Etoile, Victor Hugo, Kléber, Boissière, Alma-Marceau, Trocadéro.
__ My crushes __
The terrace of Palais de Tokyo
After a visit to the Palais de Tokyo (contemporary art), a break is required on the terrace, which overlooks the Seine and offers a magical view of the Eiffel Tower. It is really within the Palais, so you can enjoy the superb architecture, quiet, it is really a very pleasant place. In summer a bar/café is located there.
But if the weather is fine, frankly the terrace itself is cheaper and offers the same view:)
Musée de la mode – Palais Galliera and its garden
I just saw that the Palais Galliera has just closed for work until the end of 2019! But the gardens are still accessible. The Palais Galliera is therefore the fashion museum of the City of Paris (the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Louvre also presents fashion exhibitions) and you can see superb exhibitions. The museum is really on a human scale and the exhibitions are of high quality. Apparently the works are aimed at expanding the exhibition space so we will see all this in 2020!
And I particularly like the park behind the museum (it is accessible free of charge, regardless of the museum), which offers a really beautiful setting for a short break.
All this is located right in front of the Palais de Tokyo!
The interior garden of the Hôtel Renaissance – Le Parc Trocadéro
Hidden in a street it must be said not very attractive, a magnificent hotel, the Renaissance hotel Le Parc Trocadéro, houses a sublime terrace in an indoor garden. There is a rather chic restaurant, the Relais du Parc, which looks very good but quite expensive but also le Barisien, a really very nice cocktail bar, which offers cocktails and boards, snacks… at very reasonable prices. A real good plan in this district and in an enchanting setting!
__ The adresses __
- Bars/Restaurants: le Barisien, café Jamin, l’Oiseau Blanc (gastronomic restaurant)
- Culture: musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris, Palais de Tokyo, Musée Guimet (museum of asiatic arts, museum that I love and that is not very popular), Palais Galliéra, Musée Yves St Laurent (museum not huge, I would have appreciated more outfits, but Yves St Laurent’s office is really moving)
__In short, why come to the Chaillot district? __
To enjoy its enormous concentration of museums!
